The Municipality of Walvis Bay, through the Youth Climate Action Fund managed by the Office of the Mayor, continues to drive meaningful change in local communities. One of its latest successes is the bicycle empowerment project in Green Valley, Farm 37, led by 20-year-old local changemaker Iyambo Immanuel.

With a grant of N$92,500 from the fund, Iyambo partnered with the Municipality and Circle for Youth to provide 21 bicycles to school-going children in the area. This initiative promotes not only safer and more sustainable transport but also environmental responsibility and healthy living among the youth.

An educational workshop held on 20 July 2025 introduced children to cycling safety, bike care, and the broader benefits of eco-friendly transport. Just days later, on 23 July, the Mayor of Walvis Bay, His Worship Trevino Forbes, officiated the handover ceremony, joined by officials from the Traffic Office and Department of Environment.

“This project is another step in our journey towards sustainability,” said Mayor Forbes, who encouraged the children to use their new bikes responsibly and safely within the community. He also commended Iyambo’s passion and leadership.

The Youth Climate Action Fund, made possible through a successful application by the Mayor to Bloomberg Philanthropies, continues to empower young leaders with resources to drive environmental solutions on the ground.

Together, with the community and dedicated youth, the Municipality remains committed to building a greener, more resilient future for all.
